BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU women's water polo team tackled four different opponents this past weekend and came out on top, winning four of their five matchups. The Sharks are now 15-5 and 4-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play. They are set to play four more matches this coming weekend.

SHARK BITES
  • The Sharks took on St. Francis Brooklyn twice this weekend. The first meeting was at home on Friday, during which LIU and SFBK were closely battling back and forth until the second half of the game when the Sharks began to pull away, taking the lead and padding it to win 20-12 over the Terriers.
  • On Saturday, the Sharks hosted Villanova and La Salle and picked up two more wins. The first win came against Villanova, downing the Wildcats and LIU winning their early morning game 16-11.
  • After a few hours rest to reset, the Sharks got back in the water to face-off against La Salle. A high-scoring matchup, the Explorers pushed the Sharks by scoring 18 goals, but LIU edged past them and scored 20 to take another win and going 3-0 for the weekend and pushing their win-streak to 10 straight.
  • The first and only loss of the weekend came in an away meet up against Wagner on Sunday morning. The Seahawks managed to hold the Sharks to just 4 goals while pushing 17 of their own into the cage.
  • Sunday evening though, LIU again faced St. Francis Brooklyn, this time topping the Terriers 23-13 to cap off a winning weekend. The Sharks went to 15-5 with the win in the final match-up of the weekend.
  • The Sharks have four more matches this weekend starting Saturday, April 2. LIU will head on the road to compete against Villanova and La Salle with games starting at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. respectively.
