LEXINGTON, Va. — The Long Island University women's water polo team capped off its 2026 season with a dominant win over VMI on Sunday, defeating the Keydets 19-9 in Lexington, Virginia.
Freshman Esther Ruano Prieto led the way for the Sharks in their win over VMI, scoring six goals on six shots against the Keydets. Ruano Prieto wasn't the only Shark to finish with multiple goals, as freshman Chloe Liddle, redshirt freshman Julia Allen, and redshirt junior Ashlee Dobell each scored three goals, while freshman Grace Hansen scored two goals.
In the net, freshman Stella Young recorded nine saves for the Sharks. LIU had 10 steals in Sunday's win, including a team-high three by Ruano Prieto.
Prior to Sunday's game, LIU took on Mount St. Mary's University and Marist University on Saturday in Lexington. LIU fell 12-8 to the Mountaineers and 18-8 to the Red Foxes.
LIU caps the 2026 regular season with an 8-19 overall mark and a 2-6 mark in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference games.
