BRONX, N.Y. – The LIU men's cross country team took part in the 25th Annual Brother John Paddy Doyle/Iona College Meet of Champions in Van Cortlandt Park Friday morning. The Sharks took on a field of 150 runners from programs up and down the East Coast, including Temple, Johns Hopkins, Southern Connecticut State, Monmouth, Rutgers, Rowan, Quinnipiac, Monroe, Fairfield, Iona, St. Francis Brooklyn and Post University.
 
As a team, LIU finished eighth amongst the 10 schools who fielded full teams in the 8k race, highlighted by Elyas Ayyoub's fifth place finish. The freshman came in fifth in the field of 150 runners with a time of 25:46.8.
 
Junior Jonathan Gonzalez was the next finisher across the line, with a time of 27:56.0. The rest of the team scorers included Justin Rajab (28:57.9), Perry Balsamo (29:07.1) and Brenden Rosario (29:25.3). Freshmen Aiden Haughian and Jesse Wells came in at 29:32.7 and 30.14.2, respectively.
 
Up next, the Sharks take part in the Paul Short Invitational, Friday, October 1 at Lehigh University.
