BROOKVILLE, N.Y – Hosting the annual LIU Fall Festival, the men's cross country team secured a second place finish Friday morning.
 
After winning the NEC's first Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week honor of the 2026 campaign back on Sept. 10, Brian Masai continued to impress for LIU, placing second in the Men's 8k race. He boasted a time of 24:45.27 with a pace of 4:59 per mile. Fellow Shark Josh Roos came in third, with a time of 26:05.23 and a 5:15/m pace.
 
LIU's women's cross country also competed, with LIU's Gianna Marina Hartmann serving as her squad's top finisher in the Women's 6k. She placed fifth, with a time of 22:50.08 and a 6:07/m pace. Similarly to Masai, Hartmann's steady effort comes after she was named NEC Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week back on Sept. 10.
 
LIU will next compete in the Mets Cross Country Championships on Oct. 10.
