BRIDGEWATER, N.J – Standout performers from LIU's men's & women's cross country teams were recognized by the NEC this week following impressive showings at the Regionals Preview on Sept. 4.
As someone who earned himself many accolades last season, LIU men's cross country's
Brian Masai started the new season on the right foot while earning the conference's first Athlete of the Week honor of 2026. The recognition comes after Masai earned fourth place in the Men's 8k race with a time of 25:05.2 and a pace of 5:03 per mile.
On the women's side, freshman
Gianna Marina Hartmann earned Rookie of the Week honors after coming up with a time of 23:18.7 and a pace of 6:15 per mile in the Women's 6k. She was also named an NEC Prime Performer alongside fellow Shark
Ally Carillo, who boasted a time of 23:35.4 with a pace of 6:20 per mile.
LIU men's and women's cross country squads will next compete at the LIU Fall Festival on Friday, Sept. 18.
