LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Despite having two of their first three matches canceled in their opening weekend, the LIU women's water polo team made a silver lining, beating Siena on the road, 15-7. Sophomore
Jessica Dean led LIU with four goals in the win.
Diba Peiravani would get LIU on the board in the contest, scoring just over a minute and a half into play.
Kate Hinrichs made it 2-0 with a goal just 24 seconds later, and
Jessica Dean rounded out the period by scoring three straight goals, to give the Sharks a 5-0 lead after the first period.
Jenna Anderson and
Elena Camarena would both score in the second, and Peiravani added her second goal, giving LIU an 8-1 lead after two.
In the third period, Hinrichs and Camarena both scored again, as Siena got three more. The Sharks led 10-4 after three, and would round out the fourth period in strong fashion.
The Sharks scored five goals in the final period to cement the win.
Paola Dominguez got her first goal of the game, followed by
Alejandra Aranguren a minute and a half later. Dean and Peiravani would both each add one more, before
Rachel Loomis scored on a power play. The Saints would add two more goals before the end of the night, but the Shark stook the win, 15-7.
Julia Zebak got the win in net for LIU. Up next, the Sharks take on Villanova and La Salle, Saturday, April 3 in Philadelphia, Pa.
