BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Kyle Stefan has been named Long Island University's new Director of Men's & Women's Golf,
Elliott Charles, Director of Athletics, announced Monday.
"We are excited to have Coach Stefan as our next Director of Golf and Head Men's Golf Coach," Charles said. "Kyle's previous experience in cultivating championship-level play while also emphasizing academic achievement will contribute greatly towards the chapter of success for LIU Golf."
Stefan returns to full-time collegiate athletics following six years with Charles Schwab Corporation and Charles Schwab Bank, where he served as a financial consultant.
Most recently, Stefan served as assistant coach at DePaul University from 2023-25, reuniting with longtime mentor Marty Schiene and head coach Mark Haines. The Blue Demons posted a program-record team score at the 2025 Big East Championship.
Prior to DePaul, Stefan served as Director of Golf and head coach of the men's and women's programs at Loyola University Chicago from 2013-15. During Loyola's first years in the Missouri Valley Conference, his teams earned nine Academic All-America selections. He also initiated the men's and women's Whistling Straits Intercollegiate and secured a bid to host the MVC Championships at Cog Hill No. 4.
Stefan previously served as head women's golf coach at Chicago State University from 2011-13, where he rebuilt the roster, produced the lowest team and individual scoring averages in program history, and guided the Cougars to their first appearance in the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship.
Before taking over at Chicago State, Stefan spent two seasons as an assistant coach for the University of Detroit Mercy women's golf program. The Titans captured the 2010 Horizon League Championship (the first conference title in program history), and advanced to the NCAA Central Regional for the first time. Stefan recruited much of the roster that went on to win additional Horizon League championships in 2012 and 2013.
Stefan began his coaching career at Detroit Jesuit High School, where he served as a varsity assistant coach from 2006-11 after competing as a student-athlete from 2000-04. A team captain during his playing career, he was later honored with the Gerald R. Diehl Award in recognition of his service and contributions to the golf program.
As a player, Stefan competed at Wayne State University and helped the Warriors capture the 2009 NCAA Super Regional championship while advancing to the NCAA Division II National Championships for the first time in program history.
Stefan earned his Bachelor's degree from Wayne State University before completing his Master of Business Administration at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
