Elliott Charles was named Director of Athletics in June 2024 after starting his career at LIU as deputy director of athletics in 2023.
Charles grew up in Roosevelt on Long Island before launching a decorated collegiate administrative career.Â

Charles most recently had served as founder and managing partner of TracerSpace consulting and The Dunk Collective.Â
Â
He previously served as director of athletics at Chicago State University from 2019 through 2022 and also has held high-level athletics administrative positions at Clemson, Florida A&M, South Florida, Alabama and Northern Illinois as well as at the Mid-American Conference.Â
Â
Charles, who is based at LIU’s Brooklyn campus, defines his role as service-oriented.Â
Â
One of his primary early objectives is to assist with the marketing and on-court product of the basketball programs.Â
Â
Charles’ accomplishments as director of athletics at Chicago State included significantly increasing corporate sponsorship year-over-year and guiding multiple programs to unprecedented competitive records. He presided over a department that included 15 sports and more than 150 student-athletes.Â

At Clemson, Charles served as associate director of athletics for compliance services from 2017 through 2019. While there, he established Tiger Watch, an elite student-athlete education and services program.Â

And at Florida A&M from 2016 through 2017, he served as deputy director of athletics and oversaw day-to-day operations of the athletic department. He also served as the administrator for men’s and women’s basketball, while playing a key role in the launch of the Investing In Champions annual fund and administration of the NCAA Accelerating Academic Success Program grant.Â

Charles earned a bachelor of science in management from the University of South Florida. He subsequently earned a master of science in sports management from Illinois State University and a master of business administration from Northern Illinois University.
