BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Sophomore Owen Holowecky and freshman Ike Vernon of the Long Island University men's volleyball team both received weekly honors from the NEC on Monday, with Holowecky being named the NEC Player of the Week and Vernon receiving NEC Rookie of the Week honors.

Holowecky, a setter from West Palm Beach, Florida, totaled 91 assists in two matches last week, adding one service ace, seven digs, and six total blocks against Manhattan. His 61 assists in LIU's 3-2 win over the Jaspers on Friday night was a career-high, and the most in a match by an NEC student-athlete this season.

This is Holowecky's second NEC Player of the Week honor of the season, having received the award on March 17. LIU student-athletes have received four NEC Player of the Week awards, as Holowecky and Vernon have both received the award twice.

Vernon finished last weekend with 25 kills, one service ace, one dig and two total blocks, posting a hitting percentage of .372 in two matches against Manhattan. This is Vernon's fifth NEC Rookie of the Week award, previously receiving the award on Jan. 20, Jan. 27, March 11, and March 17.

Senior Kale Spencer received NEC Prime Performer honors for the XX time this spring, having totaled 29 kills, a .359 hitting percentage, three assists, three service aces, 14 digs, and two total blocks against the Jaspers last weekend.
