BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Freshman Ike Vernon of the Long Island University men's volleyball team received both NEC Player of the Week and NEC Rookie of the Week honors, the conference announced on Tuesday.
This is the second time that Vernon has won both player and rookie weekly awards in the same week from the NEC, and this is Vernon's third Rookie of the Week honor. In addition, the freshman right-side hitter was named an NEC Prime Performer for the sixth time this season.
Vernon totaled 60 kills across three matches for the Sharks, with a hitting percentage of .318 in a 2-1 week for the Sharks. The Provo, Utah native also totaled 20 digs, six service aces, six assists, and four blocks last week.
Along with Vernon, senior Kale Spencer received NEC Prime Performer honors for the third time this season. Spencer finished last week with 63 kills, including a 23-kill match in LIU's match against Roberts Wesleyan University on March 3, 27 digs, and five total blocks.
