MIAMI SHORES, Fla. — The Long Island University men's volleyball team (9-9, 1-1 NEC) concluded non-conference play on Thursday afternoon, defeating Edward Waters University 3-1 to cap off the Barry U Invite.
LIU took a 1-0 lead in the match after scoring seven of the final nine points in the first set, sealing a 25-16 win with a service ace by freshman Titus Brown.
EWU tied the match with a back-and-forth 31-29 win in Thursday's second set, though the Sharks didn't falter; LIU bounced back to win the third set 25-20 and the fourth set 25-19, winning the match in four sets.
Sophomore Lucas Ramos led LIU with 15 kills, posting a hitting percentage of .353, while Brown and freshman Ike Vernon each totaled 13 kills in the win. Sophomore Owen Holowecky led LIU in digs (11) and assists (42), while senior Vanja Petrasinovic led the Sharks with seven of LIU's 18 total blocks.
LIU returns to its home court on Friday, March 20, at 6 p.m. to continue NEC play against FDU.
