NORMAN, Okla. – Four members of the Long Island University men's golf team were named 2024-25 NCAA Division I Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced on Tuesday.
Arjun Singh Bhatia, Andre Ulvenes Kleppe,
Marcelo Mexsen, and
Taimur Malik all received the honor.
To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior, or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their associate's degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
Singh Bhatia, a sophomore from Chandigarh, India, was named NEC Golfer of the Year in 2024-25 and an all-region selection, compiling a conference-best stroke average of 71.4 across 30 rounds with three top three finishes. A business administration major, Singh Bhatia holds a 3.74 cumulative GPA.
Kleppe posted a stroke average of 74.7 with one top 10 finish this past season. A graduate student from Sotra, Bergen Norway, Kleppe is pursuing a master's in data analytics and strategic business intelligence and holds a 3.67 cumulative GPA.
Mexsen, a junior from Torreon, Mexico, earned his third consecutive first-team all-conference selection after capping the season with a runner-up finish at the NEC Championship. A former conference champion, Mexsen posted a season-long stroke average of 72.8, the second-best mark in the league. He is an accountancy major with a 3.63 GPA.
Malik, a junior from Nairobi, Kenya, earned first-team all-conference recognition with a 73.0 stroke average, ranking him third in the NEC. He posted three top 10 finishes on the season highlighted by a ninth-place finish at the season-ending NEC Championship. Malik is business administration major with a 3.54 GPA.
This past season the Sharks posted a runner-up finish at the NEC Championship and swept the NEC's major postseason awards (Singh Bhatia, Golfer of the Year;
Tom Winn, Rookie of the Year;
Ben Belfield, Coach of the Year). The Sharks placed three golfers on the NEC's first-team list becoming the first program to achieve the feat in nine years.
