BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - Cassandra McMillan has been named Long Island University's Head Dance Coach, Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Michael Berthel announced on Monday. McMillan takes over after one season as an assistant coach with the program.

"Coach McMillan brings great energy and vision to this role," said Berthel. "We look forward to seeing her lead the dance team as a key part of our Shark Nation game day experience. Her leadership will be instrumental as we continue the national success of our spirit programs."

In McMillan's lone season on staff at LIU, the Sharks claimed their third consecutive national championship in Open Spirit Game Day at Universal Dance Association Nationals. McMillan's other coaching experience includes youth dance instruction on Long Island and as a coach with the varsity team at Kellenberg Memorial High School, her alma mater.

A Long Island native from Massapequa Park, McMillan graduated from the University of Delaware with a bachelor's degree in psychology, criminal justice, and forensic science. While a student at Delaware, McMillan danced and choreographed for Delaware Dance Fever.

"I am excited to move forward with this championship program!" said McMillan. "I am grateful to be the leader of this amazing program and be trusted with our future highlights. My favorite fun fact that is used as our team's quote is that Sharks can't swim backwards and can't stop swimming. Sharks only swim forward - and that's exactly what this team lives by."
