POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Long Island University women's water polo team saw its season come to a close on Friday afternoon, falling to No. 3 seed Mount St. Mary's 13-11 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship.

LIU opened the game with a 5-1 lead courtesy of three early goals from senior Sydney deVroedt and one each from graduate student Elena Camarena and freshman Olivia Booth, but the Mountaineer defense held the Sharks scoreless the remainder of the first half, as both teams entered halftime tied at five.

While both teams continued to battle throughout the second half, it was the Mountaineers who came out on top of the game, defeating the Sharks 13-11 after outscoring LIU 4-3 in both the third and fourth quarters.

deVroedt led the Sharks with four goals, followed by Camarena with three. Booth, freshman Greta Tadday, graduate student Kate Hinrichs and junior Samantha Boothe each scored once in Friday's match.

LIU closes out the 2025 season with an 18-12 overall record, the fifth consecutive winning season for the Sharks.
