BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - Long Island University has named Phil Constantino its next Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications & Broadcasting, Director of Athletics Elliott Charles announced on Wednesday. A Farmingdale native, Constantino returns to Long Island with a decade of college athletics experience and significant national television and radio experience.

"We are excited to have Phil join as part of our athletics leadership team as he brings great enthusiasm and experience to his role," said Charles. "We have a great opportunity to continue to establish a great presence for LIU Athletics in one of the best media markets in the world."

Constantino most recently worked four seasons at Gardner-Webb University (2020-2024) in Boiling Springs, North Carolina, serving as the school's Assistant Athletic Director for Broadcasting & Strategic Communication in his final season, the school's Director of Broadcasting the previous three seasons, and as the play-by-play "Voice of the Runnin' Bulldogs" during the entirety of his tenure.

Under Constantino's leadership, GWU Athletic Communications set department records for sponsorship sales, introduced men's and women's basketball radio broadcasts, debuted the athletic department's first official podcasts, and set single-season records for quantity of live productions, among other notable achievements. Gardner-Webb's Constantino-produced broadcasts built a reputation for quality throughout the Big South Conference and southeast region. Under Constantino's tutelage, six Gardner-Webb broadcasters made their national television debut during his tenure.

Gardner-Webb hired Constantino from Queens University of Charlotte (N.C.), where he spent five seasons (2015-2020) as the play-by-play "Voice of the Royals" and his final three seasons as the school's Director of Broadcasting & Multimedia and an Assistant Sports Information Director. At Queens, Constantino founded the university's first live-broadcasting platform and served as the primary media contact for the Royals' nationally-ranked men's basketball team.

In broadcasting, Constantino has appeared on ESPN2 as a play-by-play announcer and called the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament on national radio for Westwood One Sports. Other notable on-air stops include freelance stints with Learfield, the Charlotte Hornets, ESPN Charlotte, the Charlotte Knights (AAA, Chicago White Sox), the Big South Conference, and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), among other marquee assignments.

Throughout his career, Constantino has also worked behind-the-scenes on numerous national television and radio production crews. He currently assists the National Hockey League as a podcast producer and editorial consultant.

At LIU, Constantino will oversee all aspects of the athletic department's media and broadcasting operations.

"I'm excited to return home and join a university on the rise!" said Constantino. "Thank you to Elliott and Dr. Cline for entrusting me with this incredible opportunity. Our staff will work tirelessly to enhance our product and connect with LIU fans everywhere. My family has a long history with LIU and I will wear our colors and represent our student-athletes with pride. Go Sharks!"

Constantino earned a master's degree in communication at Queens in 2020 and graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism in 2015. He is a 2011 graduate of Farmingdale High School.
