VILLANOVA, Pa. — The nationally ranked LIU women's water polo team headed to Pennsylvania for two conference matchups on Saturday afternoon.
In the first match against Marist the Sharks jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and never looked back, grabbing a 15-7 victory.
In match number two LIU faced off with last place Siena and ran into some trouble in the first quarter as the Saints took an early 4-1 lead. The Sharks would tie the match at five and then go on a tear, taking a 9-6 lead into the half. The momentum would stay in LIU's favor in the second half as it went on a scoring run and won the match 17-10.
Sydney deVroedt scored a team-high 11 goals on the day, followed by
Paola Dominguez-Castro with six and
Ale Aranguren with five.
The Sharks return to the pool Sunday morning when they take on Wagner in a ranked matchup at 11 a.m.
