POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — The LIU women's water polo team has advanced to the semifinals of the MAAC Water Polo Championship.
 
The third-seeded Sharks defeated sixth-seeded La Salle, 9-6, on Friday in the opening round.

LIU will face second-seeded and host Marist on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Against La Salle, LIU led La Salle in shots on goal by a margin of 22-13 and Paola Dominguez-Castro recorded three goals in the game. Elena Camarena added two goals for the Sharks.

Julia Zebak recorded five saves, with a .455 save percentage.

LIU improved to 21-12 on the season.
