STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The LIU track and field teams crowned several more championships on the second and final day of the NEC Indoor Championships on Monday.
Elyas Ayyoub followed his win on Sunday in the 3000 meters with another victory, this time in the 5000m run (15:00.75), en route to being named NEC Outstanding Distance Track Performer.
Meanwhile, a day after
Faith Shaw and
Sade Panton finished 1-2 in the weight throws, they reversed positions in the shot put, with Panton earning an NEC title at 13.04m and Shaw finishing as runner-up (12.14). They shared the conference's Outstanding Field Performer Throws honor.
Other champions:
Tess Duignan won the women's 800m run (2:14.36), with teammate
Rali Mihaylova finishing third (2:16.57).
And LIU's men's 4000m distance medley relay won in 10:14.44, with
Jonathan Gonzalez,
Jesse S. Wells,
Darin Cofield and Ayyoub.
Other standout performances:
•
Shaunelle Wallace finished second in the women's 60m dash (7.75).
•
London Claxton finished second in the women's 500m dash (1:17.32).
• The women's 4x400m relay, with
Camille Watson,
Alessandra Pastor,
London Claxton and Wallace, finished second (3:58.12).
• Gonzalez was third in the men's 800m run (1:54.70).
•
TJ Roberts was fourth in the men's 60m hurdles (8.37).
•
Camille Watson placed fourth in the women's 200m dash (25.47) and eighth in 400m dash (59.81).
• Wells placed fifth (1:07.39) and
Langston Richardson sixth (1.07.81) in the men's 500m dash.
•
Josephine Critchley was ninth in the women's 5000m run (18:23.89).
•
Bryan Villafuerte finished 10th in the men's 5000m run (15:33.23).
The LIU women finished third overall with 90 points. The men tied for sixth with 51 points.
