BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – LIU gymnastics hosted the Universirty of North Carolina in its final home meet of the season, fallng to the Tar Heels by a score of 196.475-195.075, which gives the Sharks their highest overall mark in program history. To top off the afternoon of records broken, sophomore
Mara Titarsolej made history by scoring a 10.000 on bars for the first time in program history.
SHARK BITES
- LIU began the afternoon on vault, led by a second-place finish from Katy Koopman with a 9.850. Amanda Loo and Alana Ricketts each contributed a 9.825, which tied for third overall in the event. The Sharks finished with a team score of 48.975.
- Moving to bars, LIU did something that had not been done before. Titarsolej anchored the group and scored a 10.000, marking the first time in LIU gymnastics history to notch a perfect score while winning the event.
- Jah'Liyah Bedminster also scored a 9.775, her highest mark since February 13 against North Carolina State. Ella Castellanos was third on the team in the event with a 9.725 mark.
- On beam, Cael Bixler went first and scored a 9.825. In the third spot, Castellanos earned a spectacular 9.900. Moments later, Taylor Doten also notched a 9.875.
- To finish the rotation on beam, Ilka Juk tied her career-high with a 9.925. The Sharks finished with a team score of 49.225, their highest of the afternoon.
- Closing out the afternoon on the floor exercise, Ella Barrington went first and earned a career best of 9.875, which eventually won her the event. Katy Koopman and Bedminster each followed with a 9.800, and Amanda Loo would anchor with a 9.775.
- Sunday marked the first time in program history that the Sharks broke 49 on team scores, which happened in the beam and floor exercises.
- Up next, LIU will travel to the Minnesota Quad Meet on Saturday, March 12 at 4:00 p.m. to face Minnesota, Temple, and Utah State.
