Season Best Score Earns Highest Finish at EAGL Championships in Program History

LIU finishes second overall after 10 Sharks land spots on the EAGL All-Tournament Teams

BROOKVILLE, N.Y.– The Long Island University women's gymnastics team (16-13, 1-3 EAGL) recorded a season best bars (49.075) and overall team score of 195.075 to take second place in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championship meet Saturday night at Pratt Recreation Center. The second place finish is the highest finish in program history for the Sharks in the EAGL Championships.
 
LIU recorded a season best team score on the uneven bars of 49.075 with Camille Lund Rasmussen, Carly Kliewer, Brisa Carraro, and Angelina Hogan scoring career bests and Isabella Savino scoring a season best to help the Sharks
 
The Sharks were led by Sophomore gymnast Raphaëlle Perreault and her 38.525 all-around points on the night. She tied for first on the floor with a career best 9.900 and tying for second on beam with a score of 9.850 and was named EAGL First Team All-Tournament for the beam, floor and all-around.
 
Junior Alina Danilchenko was the only other Shark to be named to multiple all-tournament teams after a 9.725 on beam and 9.800 on floor earning second team honors for both events she competed in.
 
The conference announced the full First and Second All-Tournament Teams Saturday night, with 10 LIU gymnasts being named to the teams. First-team All-Tournament lists on each event and in the all around consists of the top eight ranked gymnasts (including ties) from the EAGL championship meet. Second-team All-Tournament consists of the No. 9 to No. 16 ranked gymnasts (including ties) from the championship meet.

The Sharks ended the season with a 16-13 overall record, which is the first time in program history that LIU has had a winning record in program history. At home meets, LIU recorded seven wins and only two losses and despite finishing fourth in regular season conference standings, earned second place in the EAGL Championships to close out the year.
