AUBURN, ALA. -- In a historic day for LIU gymnastics, sophomore
Mara Titarsolej finished tied for fifth with a mark of 9.925 on uneven bars in the NCAA Regionals hosted by Auburn University.
"Calm, steady and consistent was exactly how Mara approached this competition, just like she has done all season," said head coach
Randy Lane. ""Her fan-girling of her fellow competitors that she stood next to on the podium, was so endearing, it allowed her to understand and believe she belonged in this elite group of women, standing next to Olympic, World, and National Champions".
Titarsolej, the reigning East Atlantic Gymnastics League Specialist of the Year, rotated with Ohio State in the second rotation of the day. Titarsolej finished in a four-way tie for second in the rotation order and a four-way tie for fifth among all gymnasts. After competing on Thursday, Titarsolej makes history as the first Sharks gymnast to compete in NCAA regionals, adding to her accolades from a record-breaking 2022 season.
"Now we are in a waiting game, as Mara still has a chance to qualify to the NCAA championships, depending on which teams qualify on from Saturday nights regional team final," said Lane. "No matter the outcome of NCAA qualification, Mara has had an amazing year and has put LIU gymnastics on the map in our sport".
