WEST HAVERSTRAW, N.Y. – The LIU bowling team went 2-1 against Northeast Conference rival St. Francis Brooklyn Sunday, doing enough to clinch a spot in the NEC Championship tournament in two weeks. The Sharks went 10-11 in NEC regular season play, locking up the No. 4 seed in the five-team NEC championship meet in late March.
LIU opened the day in a traditional match against the Terriers, winning 985-976. Three Sharks bowled over 200, led by freshman
Sarah Orensky's 211, along with
Patricia Kelly and
Kellie Frain, who both bowled 200 even.
In the five-game baker match, LIU beat SFBK, 1031 to 976 (182-175, 232-253, 184-195, 215-167, 217-176).
The day rounded out with a close loss to the Terriers in a best four of seven baker matchup, which St. Francis Brooklyn won, 4-3 (213-158, 168-228, 183-200, 186-149, 183-205, 216-183, 196-222).
