HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. – The LIU bowling team saw an eight pin difference end their championship hopes Friday morning at Hamilton Lanes. The No. 4 seeded Sharks led No. 5 seed Mount St. Mary's in the five game baker match by nearly 100 pins, but saw the lead slip away late in the game, and the Mountaineers won 962-954 to eliminate LIU from the Northeast Conference championship tournament.
The two teams were facing off in a mega-match, starting with a traditional match. The Mount won that contest, 1079-828. LIU was led by senior
Kellie Frain's 203.
The Sharks had to win to stay alive in the five game baker match, and at the start, it seemed like they would, as LIU won game one, 210-190, and game two 217-140. But the Mountaineers chipped away, winning games three through five, 187-128, 227-185, and 218-14, to take the win by just eight pins, 962-954.
With the loss, LIU is eliminated from the NEC championship. They finish the season with a 19-25 overall record.
