RALEIGH, N.C. – The Long Island University women's gymnastics team posted its best showing of the season on Saturday, March 13, closing out the regular season with a team score of 193.100 at North Carolina State University.
The 193.100 bested the previous team-record by over one point (191.925). In addition to the total score, the Sharks set new program marks on vault and floor, recording a 48.325 and 48.525, respectively.
Despite the strong effort, LIU could not pick up its first head-to-head victory of the season as the Wolfpack had its best showing of the year as well. NC State posted the 18th-best team score nationally at 196.900.
Katy Koopman led LIU on vault, earning a new personal-best mark of 9.800.
Amanda Loo added a 9.725 and
Alyssa van Allen tacked on a 9.675.
LIU had four scores of 9.750 or better on beam, led by a 9.775 by
Alisson Lapp. Koopman,
Taylor Doten, and van Allen all posted a 9.750. The 9.750 was a new personal-best for Koopman, while it also matched a personal mark for van Allen.
Ella Castellanos earned a new personal-best score of 9.750 on bars, while Lapp added a 9.700.
The Sharks will now turn their attention to the Eastern Atlantic Gymnastics League Championship on Saturday, March 20. The championship will be hosted at the Petersen Events Center on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh. The event will be held in two sessions, with seeding information being announced on Monday, March 15.
