BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The New England Women's Hockey Alliance recognized 107 student-athletes with 2019-20 All-Academic Team honors on Wednesday, including 14 members of the LIU women's hockey team. And LIU's
Kenzie Harmison was named one of the conference's Student-Athletes of the Year.
Seven student-athletes maintained 4.0 grade-point averages to earn Student-Athlete of the Year distinction, including Jayne Lewis (Sacred Heart), Kathleen Takita (Post),
Kenzie Harmison (LIU), Kaitlin Daly (Post), Kendall Fitzgerald (Post), Bridget Fagan (Franklin Pierce), and Cannady Taleghani (Sacred Heart).
Harmison, the Most Outstanding Player in the 2020 NEWHA postseason tournament, played in 15 games for LIU in its first season of competition and finished the year ranked fifth in the nation with a .941 save percentage. The freshman made a career-high 41 saves against Sacred Heart in the NEWHA semifinals and is majoring in Film.
To be eligible for the All-Academic Team for the NEWHA, student-athletes must have achieved at least a 3.0 grade-point average in both the first and second semester. The Student-Athlete of the Year award is conveyed to the student-athlete(s) who have maintained the highest grade-point average in the league.
