NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Long Island University fencing team is back for the spring season, traveling to Yale University for the Yale Duels on Saturday. LIU is one of four teams competing in the meet. Yale, Vassar, and Sacred Heart are on the docket.

Notes on the Sharks
Last time out, the Sharks earned two wins at the Drew Rangers Holiday Invitational.
Jasmine Hagans and
Nikkita Louis contributed to a 4-3 victory over Hunter College in the sabre. The epee trio of
Alina Chen,
Faith Ferraro, and
Grace Scura cruised to an 8-1 win against the shorthanded Hawks. LIU swept the bout, taking the match 16-9.

In LIU's victory over Yeshiva, Hagans defeated two opponents in the sabre. The foil team of Karen Valezquez,
Manny Kaur, and
Madysen D'Angelo all secured wins in an 8-1 romp of the Maccabees. LIU sealed the match with another 8-1 triumph in the epee event.

Scouting the Competition
Saturday marks for the first matchup against Yale for the Sharks. The hosts come into the competition at 15-6, most recently capturing five victories at the Philadelphia Invitational on January 19. LIU fell to Vassar 21-5 in the Vassar Invitational on November 10. In the same meet, the Blue and Gold went up against Sacred Heart, suffering a 17-10 setback. The Pioneers enter Saturday at 7-19 on the season.
