POUGKEEPSIE, N.Y.— The Long Island University women's fencing team travels to Vassar College for the Vassar Invitational on Sunday, November 10. The Sharks will compete against eight teams at the meet with competition scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
NOTES ON THE SHARKS
Last time out LIU competed in its first individual tournament of the season at the 2019 Temple Open.
The Sharks placed there fencers in the top-40 in the epee event in Philadelphia. Sophomore Alina Chen advanced out of pool play and made an appearance in a round of 32. She was edged 13-12 in the round to place 30th overall. Freshman Faith Ferraro also competed in the round of 32 and placed 31st overall. Sophomore Grace Scura finished 38th in the event.
Sophomore Karen Velasquez earned a pair of wins in pool play to advance to the round of 64 in the foil for LIU. She placed 47th in the overall bracket. Freshman Madysen D'Angelo earned four victories during pool play in the consolation foil bracket to earn bronze.
Sophomore Jasmine Hagans earned three wins in the consolation sabre event to place sixth in the bracket.
THE FIELD
LIU is set to compete against several familiar foes in Drew University, Fairleigh Dickinson, Hunter College and Wellesley College after battling at the LIU Invitational to start the year. The Sharks earned victories over Hunter and FDU at the Steinberg Center on Sunday, October 27.
Some new opponents on the docket in Sunday's meet include Lafayette, Sacred Heart Incarnate Word and tournament host, Vassar.

LIU will take the next weekend off before closing out the fall semester at the Drew Rangers Holiday Tournament on Sunday, November 24.
