ROCKWAY, N.J. – After dropping their first match of the day, the Long Island University bowling team rallied to win two best of seven Baker matches Sunday at the Caldwell Cougar Classic, finishing fifth overall in the field of 12.
The Sharks started the day with a loss to the best team in the tournament, #7 nationally-ranked University of Maryland-Eastern Shore. LIU fell to UMES, 867-918, led by
Rhianna Smith's 203.
But moving into the best-of-seven Baker games, the Sharks bounced back, and capped the tournament with two straight wins to finish fifth overall.
First, LIU beat host Caldwell, 4-3 (196-124, 170-176, 145-150, 169-166, 153-173, 201-167, 198-192). Then, the Sharks finished the day with another 4-3 win, this time over Molloy (148-188, 191-169, 177-173, 161-196, 203-146, 174-189, 176-141).
Liu finishes the weekend with a 5-5 record, and a total pinfall of 9,691, for a 176.2 average per game.
Up next, the Sharks will have almost two weeks off to prepare for the first Northeast Conference meet of the season. NEC Meet #1 will take place November 9-10 in Mechanicsburg, Pa.
