BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The Long Island University women's fencing team opens the 2019-20 season on Sunday, October 27 with the LIU Invitational at the Steinberg Wellness Center. The 2019 LIU Invitational is set to begin at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.
SCOUTING THE FIELD
LIU is set to match up against several local foes in Drew University, Fairleigh Dickinson, Hunter College, NJIT and Wagner at the opening tournament. Wellesley University is also on the docket for the Sharks as The Blue make the trip down from Massachusetts.
NOTES ON THE SHARKS
LIU fencing team under the direction of first-year head coach
Ivan Lee features a roster of 11 fencers for the 2019-20 season. The Sharks feature a pair of junior returnees in Dominque Canton and
Danielle Haye. LIU's sophomore class is comprised of
Alina Chen,
Jasmine Hagans,
Grace Scura and
Karen Velasquez. The team welcomes five first-year student athletes to the fold in
Madysen D'Angelo,
Faith Ferraro,
Manny Kaur,
Nikkita Louis and
Jennifer Pino.
The fencers that will compete in the epée event this upcoming season for LIU are

Grace Scura. LIU's foil squad is comprised of

Jennifer Pino and
Karen Velasquez. Representing the Sharks in the sabre are
