BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - With 54 seconds remaining in a scoreless game, quarterback Julia Dank connected with wide receiver Thelma Granados for a one-yard touchdown and the Long Island University women's flag football team (1-6) earned its first win in program history, defeating Kean University (4-5), 7-0, on Wednesday evening at Shark Stadium.

Approaching the game's final minute, Kean faced a fourth down deep in its own end preparing to punt. But the Cougars fumbled the snap inside their own five yard line, giving the Sharks prime field position.

On first down, Dank rushed up the middle for a gain of three yards to the one, and on second down, hit Granados on a shallow crossing pattern for the decisive score. The Sharks followed with a successful one-point conversion.

As Kean quickly moved the football on the ensuing drive, Samanta Puelles intercepted a downfield pass on the game's final play to seal the victory.

Dank finished the game 12-for-29 passing for 69 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions. She also led the team in rushing, carrying the ball seven times for 18 yards.

Sophia Songveeratham was LIU's leading receiver, catching two passes for 37 yards. Puelles made four catches for 27 yards and E'lise Lyrse logged two receptions for 20 yards.

Defensively, Mani Boyd recorded three sacks and five tackles for loss. Rileigh Vandekieft recorded an interception, two pass breakups, and five tackles. Puelles intercepted one pass with four total pass breakups.

The Sharks return to action on Friday in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in the National Collegiate Flag Football League Regionals.
