BRIDGEWATER, N.J. - Junior midfielder
Aidan Zuhoski of the Long Island University men's lacrosse team was named NEC Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. The weekly honor is Zuhoski's first of his career.
In Saturday's 9-7 win at the University of Detroit Mercy, Zuhoski scored the eventual game-winner, leading LIU with five points on four goals and an assist, as the Sharks earned their fifth consecutive victory and remained unbeaten in NEC play. Zuhoski currently ranks second in the conference averaging 3.63 points per game.
Senior faceoff specialist
Shaun Hill also earned prime performer recognition for his performance on Saturday, winning 12 of 18 faceoffs with a team-best six ground balls.
Zuhoski is the third LIU player to claim player of the week honors this season after junior attackman
Ben McIsaac (March 2) and senior attackman
Cameron Connolly (Feb. 9) each previously earned the award. The trio, along with
Tyler Davide (defensive player of the week, Feb. 23) and
Tyler Gresh (defensive player of the week, Feb. 9), have all earned weekly awards from the NEC this season.
At 3-0 in the NEC, the Sharks are currently tied with Robert Morris University for the top spot in the conference standings. LIU's .889 winning percentage is tied with the University of North Carolina and Duke University for the fourth-best winning percentage nationally in Division I.
The Sharks return to action on Saturday versus Mercyhurst University at Shark Stadium. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
