SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Long Island University men's lacrosse team (7-1, 2-0 NEC) defeated Le Moyne College (2-8, 1-1 NEC), 9-5, on Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Field, extending its winning streak to four consecutive games.
Antony Tsakos and
Aidan Zuhoski led the Sharks with two goals apiece. With a goal and two assists,
Ben McIsaac posted a team-best three-point game.
The Sharks outshot the Dolphins, 44-30, including a 25-11 edge in shots on goal. Redshirt sophomore goalie
Tyler Gresh made six saves.
Defensively, LIU caused 17 turnovers and held Le Moyne just 16 of 24 on clear attempts.
The Sharks also led in ground balls recovered, 32-17. Senior faceoff specialist
Shaun Hill recovered a game-high six ground balls while winning 12 of 18 faceoffs.
Matthew Gilbert followed with four ground balls.
Tyler Davide added three groundballs with one caused turnover.
At 7-1 overall, LIU holds the eighth-best winning percentage nationally in Division I (.875 win pct.). With a 2-0 conference record, the Sharks are tied with Robert Morris University for first place in the NEC as the only remaining unbeaten teams in conference play.
LIU returns to action on Saturday at the University of Detroit Mercy. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.
