Aidan Zuhoski Scores 4 Goals, Tyler Gresh Makes 10 Saves, LIU Tops Detroit Mercy

Sharks win 5th straight game, move to 3-0 in NEC

DETROIT, Mich. - Aidan Zuhoski scored four goals and goaltender Tyler Gresh made 10 saves as the Long Island University men's lacrosse team (8-1, 3-0 NEC) defeated the University of Detroit Mercy (1-8, 0-3 NEC), 9-7, on Saturday afternoon at Titan Field. Zuhoski, who scored the eventual game-winner, added an assist to tally five total points as the Sharks earned a fifth consecutive win and moved to 3-0 in conference play.

Tied 7-7 in the fourth quarter, Zuhoski scored an unassisted goal with 8:59 remaining in the game, giving LIU an 8-7 lead. Moments later, Zuhoski assisted a score by Ben McIsaac with 8:21 left, sealing the final margin.

In the final 2:15 of the game, Gresh made three saves, including a stop on a Detroit Mercy man-up chance.

Antony Tsakos, Charlie Hunnewell, and Ben Schuster also scored for LIU in the win. The Sharks outshot the Titans, 39-28, including a 27-17 edge in shots on goal.

Defensively, LIU forced 18 Detroit Mercy turnovers, finished with a +7 turnover edge, and forced five unsuccessful clears.

Shaun Hill went 12-for-18 on faceoff chances and secured a team-best six ground balls.

At 3-0 in the NEC, the Sharks are currently tied with Robert Morris University for the top spot in the conference standings. LIU's .889 winning percentage is tied with the University of North Carolina and Duke University for the fourth-best winning percentage nationally in Division I.

The Sharks return to action on Saturday versus Mercyhurst University at Shark Stadium. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
