Staten Island, N.Y. – LIU men's and women's track & field teams competed in the conclusion of the NEC Championships on Monday, taking home three first-place titles on day two.
Just one day after setting a new NEC record for the Women's 3000 Meter Run, LIU's
Hasnae Goulamzi set yet another NEC record by coming in with a time of 16:29.91 in the Women's 5000 Meter Run. The junior subsequently went on to win the Women's Most Valuable Performer honor, as well as Women's Most Outstanding Track Performer (Distance).
Phillip Baynes Jr. came in first place during the Men's Triple Jump, marking in at 14.82m.
Brian Masai (who also placed fourth in the Men's 1 Mile Run) was the top finisher in the Men's 800 Meter Run with a time of 1:52.55, closely followed by Sharks teammate
Jayden Curry in second place (with a time of 1:52.86). The Sharks' Men's 4x400M relay squad placed third (3:19.44) in competition as well.
Following a first place win of her own in the Women's Shot Put on Sunday, freshman
Sonjay Baylor-Reeves went on to place third in the Women's Weight Throw with a mark of 16.45m on Monday. She was named NEC Women's Co-Most Outstanding Field Performer (Throws).
Amiyah Michell (with a 11.57m mark) also came in third in the Women's Triple Jump.
