New Britain, Conn. -- LIU men's & women's track & field teams competed in the NEC Outdoor Championships this past weekend, emerging with four titles at the conclusion of competition.
Sonjay Baylor-Reeves racked up the accolades, coming in first in Women's Shot Put with a 14.35m mark. Having also secured second place finishes in Women's Hammer Throw (with a 49.54m mark) and Discus Throw (42.94m), the Sharks' freshman standout subsequently earned Most Outstanding Rookie and Most Outstanding Field Performer (Throws) honors from the NEC.
Also no stranger to top scores and impressive honors, Hasnae Goulamzi took home the top spot in the Women's 5000m Run with a time of 17:16.13. She additionally came in third place in the Women's 1500m with a 4:40.83 time.
Another Shark making waves in competition was Jayden Curry, who secured first place in the Men's 800m Run with a 1:52.74 time. The freshman also placed second in Men's High Jump with a 1.97m mark.
Curry's strong weekend continued as he helped LIU win its fourth title of competition as he, Walid Jarfani, Ryan Bailor, and Brian Masai teamed up to finish first in the Men's 4x800 Relay with a time of 7:36.68.
