Staten Island, N.Y. – The Long Island University men's and women's track teams competed in the Gotham Cup on Friday, with many student-athletes emerging with standout performances.

Hasnae Goulamzi won the women's 3k race, besting her own previous mark – setting a new school record – with a time of 9:43:46. She previously set the record at the Fastrack Season Opener just last month, back on Dec. 5.

Both Sonjay Baylor-Reeves (a 14.04 mark) and Abigail Jefferies (12.25) were top finishers in the women's shot put for LIU, finishing first and second, respectively.

Jefferies was also a top-10 finisher in 60 meter hurdles, with her mark of 9.43 seconds helping her secure eighth place. Sharks teammate Shameka Samuel finished fifth overall, slotting in at 9.17 seconds.

On the men's side, Brian Masai won the 800 meter run with a time of 1:53:15. Also finishing strong for LIU in the race was Jayden Curry, with a time of 1:54:08, good for second place.

The Sharks will next compete at the Wagner Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 17.
