FROSTBURG, Md. – The 14
th-ranked Long Island University acrobatics and tumbling team knocked off No. 9 Frostburg State University, 250.075-243.125, on Friday, while posting its second-highest total meet score of the season.
"We had a really fun meet matching up with the No. 9 ranked team, Frostburg, who has been known to be clean and consistent," said head coach
Shelby Armstrong. "Our goal going in was to stay in the air and stay sharp and deliberate with everything we did. We got some reps in last night, and we seem to always start off competing a little nervous in the first two heats, so we tried to create an environment at practice to work on that. We feel fired up heading into our last meet of our road trip with Duquesne on Sunday."
After falling behind in compulsories, LIU won each remaining event except tosses. The Sharks recorded four new season-high scores including Compulsory Pyramid (9.55), Acro 5 Element (9.75), Acro 6 Element (9.05), and Pyramid Heat 2 (9.65), led by tops
Arianna Ardilla,
Makenna Guidish, and
Ariel Beete, and basses
Kylie Iwanaga, Mady Bradley, Courtney Da Silva, and Gabby Moore.
The Sharks complete their spring break road trip on Sunday versus No. 15 Duquesne University at 3 p.m.
