WACO, Tex. – The 14
th-ranked Long Island University acrobatics and tumbling team set several new season-highs, but fell to No. 1 Baylor University, 278.540-236.660, on Saturday at the Ferrell Center.
The Sharks group of
Arianna Ardilla,
Kylie Iwanaga,
Logan Lombardi, and
Christina DeVincenzo posted a new season-high score of 9.5 in the compulsory pyramid heat. That same group also scored 9.45 in the duo pyramid of the pyramid event, .35 higher than their score in the season-opening meet versus Iona College.
Individually, in the open heat of the toss event, DeVincenzo scored 9.05, improving her scoring by more than half of a point from meet to meet.
"This was our first away meet and big travel meet, and second time facing Baylor as a program," said head coach
Shelby Armstrong. "We fought hard in a lot of heats and finished strong in compulsories & pyramids. We put out the same start values as Baylor in the first three events so it's fun to watch the execution of both teams! We scored higher in four heats than our last meet. It's not the performance we had hoped for in the second half, but with two meets under our belt as we head into our next meet at home with Quinnipiac this week we are excited to keep cleaning up our skills and face another great opponent!"
LIU returns to action this Saturday, Feb. 22, at home versus Quinnipiac University at 5 p.m.
