BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Seven members of the Long Island University men's and women's swimming teams garnered NEC weekly awards on Wednesday, including sophomore Finn Drysdale being named the NEC Men's Swimmer of the Week, junior Lara Wielkiewicz receiving co-NEC Women's Swimmer of the Week honors, and freshman Mario Rodriguez Poulsen being named the NEC Men's Rookie of the Week.
In addition to the three, freshman Léandre Renault, junior Polat Tasbasi, senior Anapaula Gomez Janiero, and senior Gabriela Novais Lima were all named NEC Prime Performers.
Drysdale finished first in both the 1,650-yard freestyle (15:24.37 minutes) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:24.79) at the ECAC Winter Championships last weekend, setting a new meet and program record in the 1,650-yard freestyle. In addition, the sophomore also finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (15:24.37).
The Perth, Scotland native also swam the second leg of both the 400-yard freestyle (45.04 split, 2:59.31 team time) and 800-yard freestyle (1:38.67 split, 8:38.13 team time) relay teams, the latter of which set a program record.
Wielkiewicz garnered first-place finishes in the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.10) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.17), along with a fourth-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley (4:33.00).
The Budapest native also swam on three relay teams; the third-place 400-yard freestyle (53.43 split, 3:29.73 team time), the fourth-place the 400-yard medley relay (56.56 split, 3:52.58 team time), and the fourth-place 200-yard medley relay (25.81 split, 1:45.09 team time).
Rodriguez Poulsen won two individual events, finishing on top of the podium in the 100-yard freestyle (44.19, program record) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:38.64). He also took fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (20.41).
The Oviedo, Austrias, Spain native also swam the final leg of LIU's first-place finishing and record-breaking 800-yard freestyle relay team (1:39.90 split), and also led off the 400-yard freestyle relay team (45.31 split) that took first. Rodriguez Poulsen also led off the 200-yard freestyle relay (20.63 split, 1:21.60 team time), with the team finishing third.
