GENEVA, Ohio – The Long Island University men's swimming team started off the third day of the NEC Championships with a sweep of the 200-yard freestyle race.
Mario Rodriguez Poulsen,
Léandre Renault (1:38.29),
Emilio Garcia (1:38.43), and
Finn Drysdale (1:39.93) finished in first through fourth place respectively, with Rodriguez Poulsen setting a school-record with a time of 1:37.87.
Junior
Martin Navelsaker Beitveit won a conference title for the Sharks in the men's 100-yard backstroke race, finishing in first place with a time of 49.83.
LIU secured two more podium finishes after
Polat Tasbasi took second in the men's 100-yard breaststroke with a 53.69 and the men's 400-yard medley relay team (
Ayden Almaraz, Tasbasi, Navelsaker Beitveit, and Poulsen) finished in third place with a time of 3:17.17.
The Sharks currently hold fourth place with a team score of 399 for the men and hold fifth place with a team score of 228 for the women after day two of competition.
The NEC Championships conclude on Friday with events 28 through 39; the 1650-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, and 400-yard freestyle relay events.
