BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Three members of the Long Island University men's and women's swimming teams were recognized as NEC Prime Performers on Wednesday, as sophomore Finn Drysdale, junior Polat Tasbasi, and junior Lara Wielkiewicz all took home conference honors.
Drysdale finished first in both the 500-yard freestyle (4:49.32 minutes) and the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:01.97 minutes) in Saturday's home meet against Wagner College. The Perth, Scotland native also swam the first leg of the 400-yard freestyle B team (49.43 split, 3:17.55 team time) and the fourth leg of the 200-yard medley relay B team (1:39.39 team time)
Tasbasi finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke (55.89 seconds) and the first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:04.02 minutes). The Ankara, Turkey native also swam the fourth leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay (45.07 split, 3:05.01 team time) and the second leg of the 200-yard medley relay (1:34.16 team time), with both teams finishing first.
This is the second Prime Performer nod for Tasbasi this season, who was also named the NEC Men's Swimmer of the Week and an NEC Prime Performer on Oct. 29.
Wielkiewicz finished first in both the 100-yard butterfly (59.38 seconds) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:12.51 minutes), and took second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:10.42 minutes) at Saturday's home meet against Wagner. The Budapest, Hungary native also swam the third leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay, finishing second (56.49 split, 2:45.17 team time).
LIU returns to action on Dec. 5 at the ECAC Men's and Women's Winter Swimming & Diving Championships at the Nassau County Aquatics Center in East Meadow, N.Y.
