BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - Andy Goveia has been named Head Men's & Women's Tennis Coach, Long Island University Director of Athletics
Elliott Charles announced on Friday. Goveia has been promoted to lead both programs after one season as an assistant coach with the Sharks.
Prior to his time at LIU, Goveia coached at the Cunningham Tennis Center in Queens (2021-2023) where he advised multiple male and female ITF top 150 ranked players, multiple junior grand slam participants, and multiple USTA junior level 1, 2, and 3 national tournament winners in the U12-18 age groups. Since 2024, Goveia has also served as the lead coach of the tournament training program at Christopher Morley.
A native of Guyana, Goveia graduated from Sheepshead Bay High School in Brooklyn in 2007 and joined the United States Army where he served for 10 years (2011-2021). During his military tenure, Goveia was promoted to staff sergeant and team leader in 2014, where he supervised a team of six troops and a squad of nine.
After leaving the military, Goveia graduated from Pace University in 2022 with a bachelor's degree in organizational management.
As a player, Goveia won Guyana's national junior championship in singles and national senior championship in doubles in 2007. He was a member of the Guyanese national team from 2007-2011 and was inducted into the Sheepshead Bay High School Hall of Fame (2008).
