FARMINGDALE, N.Y. –  The LIU Sharks men's golf team took home serious hardware earlier this week with a victory at the Doc Gimmler Red & Black Tournament at Bethpage New York State Park.  
 
LIU jumped to the top of the scorecard with a strong team performance in the second round that saw the team finish with a score of five under par. The total +15 from the three-round, two-day event was five strokes better than second-place St. John's, and six better than third-place North Dakota State. 
 
The Sharks were paced by freshman Tom Winn who placed sixth individually in the tournament with a score of two over par. Winn finished tied for first place solely in round three while shooting one over par. 
 
Junior Taimur Malik came in tied for 11^th place with a finish of five over par. 
 
The victory gave Long Island an excellent team win to begin the season. Their next outing will be at the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate in Berlin, Conn. on September 21 and 22.
