BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The men's and women's swimming teams hosted Le Moyne in a dual meet on Saturday in the Steinberg Wellness Center. The Sharks dominated the Dolphins as the women's team swept every event and the men had a sizable victory.
Mariajose Lopez Lizarraga was victorious in the 1000-yard (10:40.72), 500-yard (5:18.22), 200-yard (1:59.18) freestyles. She crushed the field in the 500, winning by over 14 seconds.
Allie Bashor had a really nice afternoon, winning both the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.03) and 100-yard freestyle (55.56).
Summer Wenger was right behind her in the 100-yard free, finishing in 55.65.
Bashor was also a part of two winning relay teams. LIU won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:52.81 with a team of
Rea Shehu,
Claire McFerrin,
Kia Moerk and Bashor. The Sharks also won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:41.76 with Bashor,
Femke Backx,
Summer Wenger and
Alexandra Ciorna.
Ciorna won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.54. She was followed by Alycia Webber and
Kia Moerk.
Rea Shehu grabbed a win in the 200-yard backstroke with a 2:12.47
Bella Seagrave was the winner of both the 100-yard backstroke (1:09.80) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:28.74).
Lara Wielkiewicz won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:14.61, followed by
Annalise Stingle and
Itzy Gonzalez Rojas.
Allison Naylor won the 50-yard freestyle (25.81) and
Emma Koehler won the 200-yard IM (2:13.77).
Dani Chocano Fernández won the most events for the men, claiming three victories during the meet. He won the 1000-yard freestyle (10:18.52), 200-yard IM (2:01.63) and 100-yard backstroke (52.23)
Giannis Venetos won two events; the 100-yard backstroke (58.02) and the 200-yard breaststroke, which he won by over eight seconds (2:12.39).
Alejandro Pascual Del Cid also won two events. He was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.11 and the 100-yard freestyle with a 48.57.
Lovro Dodik won the 200-yard butterfly with a 1:58.84 and was followed by
Marcell Matyikó.
Ethan Law had another win in the 100-yard butterfly with a 52.86.
Benny Karlsson won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:59.02.
Just like the women, the men won both the 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of
Trajan Houston,
Marcelo Chauvet, Dodik and
Emilio Garcia won the 200 in 1:35.20 while the team of Chauvet, Chocano Fernández, Pascual Del Cid, and Garcia won the 400 in 3:13.76.
The Sharks return to the pool on Jan. 27 when they travel to Saint Peter's for a dual meet.
