LIU Adds to Haul on Day 3 of NEC Championships

Laura Garcia Marin, Dani Chocano Fernandez, & Finn Drysdale all claim conference titles

GENEVA, Ohio – The Long Island University swimming team added three more conference championships to its ledger on day three of the Northeast Conference Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday.

Laura Garcia Marin became the first LIU woman claim a title at this year's conference meet, taking gold in the 400-yard individual medley with a new school-record time of 4:21.47. Lara Wielkiewicz took bronze in the same race with a new personal-best time of 4:28.81.

Dani Chocano Fernandez, already a relay champion, won his first individual championship of the week, taking the top spot in the men's 400 IM with a time of 3:57.89.

In the men's 200-yard freestyle, the Sharks placed 1-2 atop the podium. Finn Drysdale won the NEC crown with a school-record swim of 1:38.15. Emilio Garcia placed second (1:39.27).

Also of note on day three, Allie Bashor posed a new personal-best time of 54.68 to win the silver medal in the 100 butterfly and the men's 400 medley relay team took third place (3:21.35).

With one day of competition remaining, the LIU men hold third place in the team standings with a score of 399 and the women hold fifth place with a score of 309.

For the third consecutive day, Howard University (644) leads the men's competition and Central Connecticut State University (550.5) leads the women's competition. The NEC Championships conclude on Saturday.
