BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — Emil Jaaskelainen again has been recognized as one of the nation's elite men's soccer forwards.
United Soccer Coaches on Tuesday selected Jaaskelainen as a Player to Watch.
Jaaskelainen, a 6-foot-3 senior forward from Bolton, England, was one of 32 Division I forwards nationwide to receive the recognition — and the lone Northeast Conference student-athlete on the list.
The distinction comes a week after teammate
Robert Winkler was the lone NEC student-athlete selected as a United Soccer Coaches Player to Watch at defender.
Jaaskelainen is the reigning NEC Player of the Year and a 2022 United Soccer Coaches All-Northeast Region first-team selection.
He completed last season with an NEC-leading 12 goals as well as one assist in 15 matches (14 starts). Those goals included scoring consecutive game-winners in the 89th minute, against Manhattan in a 2-1 victory on Sept. 14 and on a header at Columbia three days later in a 1-0 victory.
The Sharks open this season on Aug. 24 at Stony Brook.
