BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — The LIU women's rugby team has added a high-profile recruit to its incoming class for the 2023-24 academic year.
West Coast rugby standout Kori Fields has signed a national letter of intent with the Sharks.
Last year, Fields was a USA Women's 7s High Performance Camp invitee, USA U18 7s and 15s camp invitee and the San Joaquin County Female Athlete of the Year.
"Not only is she a great athlete, but she's also a great addition to our family and culture," LIU senior captain
Arianne Jones said. "We can't wait to see what she brings to our team as a new player this upcoming year. It is our vision for our team that LIU be known for women's rugby. Signing Kori brings us one step closer to that vision."
Fields' sister Cameron currently plays rugby at Harvard. Father Marcus played football at Cal from 1997 through 2001, while mother Zhauntel ran track at Cal during that same era.
Fields' other athletic accomplishments include captaining the rugby and track and field teams at Saint Mary's High School in Stockton, Calif.
She is the high school's 200-meter record-holder as well as the school's 100m hurdles record-holder. She also anchored a record-breaking 4x100m relay team. She was the NorCal 200m and 4x100m champion.
