BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The generosity of LIU student-athletes and their friends is making the holiday season significantly brighter for our neighbors in need.
A Student-Athlete Advisory Committee-led initiative, in conjunction with the Northeast Conference, resulted in LIU student-athletes collecting a school-record 3,598 cans of nonperishable food.
The items are being shared through City Harvest Food Bank in Brooklyn and The Inn on Long Island.
Overall, NEC schools combined to collect a conference-record 19,206 cans during the seventh annual holiday drive.
LIU contributed the second-most cans of any NEC member, its top finish.
The men's ice hockey team collected the most cans per student-athlete: 563.
