Women's Swimming Suffers Narrow Defeat to Iona on Friday

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — The LIU women's swimming team competed in its second meet of the year at Iona on Friday night.
 
Maaike Broersma, the reigning NEC Swimmer of the Week, finished first in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke with a time of 56.69. Aidan Condit finished third, her highest mark in two meets.
 
Junior Venna Andersen placed first in the 50-yard breaststroke after placing third in the 50-yard freestyle at Rutgers.
 
Other notable finishes included first in the 200-yard butterfly and 500-yard freestyle by Ella Johnson and second in the 500 free from Femke Backx.
 
The Sharks return home tomorrow vs. Saint Peter's at 11 a.m.
