Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU women's basketball team hosted Bryant University in the Steinberg Wellness Center on Sunday afternoon, and with the help of a shifting defensive strategy in the third quarter, the Sharks won 49-39. Senior guard
Brandy Thomas led the Sharks with 14 points, nine rebounds, four steals, and two assists for the afternoon.
SHARK BITES
- Sophomore guard Dallas Carter headed the Sharks in the first quarter, shooting 2-for-2 from beyond the arc to have LIU up 17-12.
- Nothing was going for either team in the second quarter, anad LIU led at the half, 25-20.
- In the third quarter, LIU started full-court pressing and frustrating the visiting Bulldogs, forcing six turnovers in the period. The Sharks were able to capitalize, scoring eight points off those turnovers, pushing their lead to 39-25.
- The full-court press strategy continued into the fourth quarter, and despite the Bulldogs outscoring the Sharks in the fourth 14-10, the lead LIU accumulate was too great and the Sharks held on to win 49-39.
- Senior forward Kiara Bell posted 11 points, four rebounds, three steals, and two assists in the win.
- Carter and redshirt junior Kennedy Taylor each tallied eight points for LIU.
- The Sharks are now 4-6 in conference play.
- Up next, the Sharks are on the road to take on Sacred Heart University on Thursday, February 3 at 7 p.m.
